Refund policy
Last updated October 10, 2026
This policy covers every payment to CBOs of America: the founding deposit and the annual membership. It is part of the terms of use. Students and parents never pay, so it applies to organizations.
1. What you pay, and when
- Founding deposit. One payment of 50 percent of the first year: $250 for a community-based organization and $1,500 for a university or college. Schools pay nothing.
- Annual membership. $500 a year for a community-based organization and $3,000 a year for a university or college. The deposit is credited in full, so a founding member pays the other half when it joins.
- Nothing renews by itself. Each payment is a single charge. A membership runs for 12 months and then ends unless your organization places a new order. We never charge a card again without one.
- There are no fees per student, per seat, per referral, per application or per enrollment.
2. The founding deposit
The deposit reserves your organization's place in line and is credited in full to its first year. Because it holds a place that another organization could have taken, the deposit is non-refundable, except in the cases below.
We refund a deposit in full when:
- We do not deliver. The workspace has not been made available to your organization within 12 months of your payment. You can ask at any time after that date, and you may also choose to keep your place.
- We cannot accept your organization. We decide your organization cannot join, for example because it is not a CBO, school, college or university.
- We close the program before your workspace is made available.
- You were charged twice, or charged the wrong amount. We refund the extra.
- The law requires a refund.
Before you pay, you tick a box beside a sentence that states this rule, and the same rule is shown again on the payment page. We keep a record of the sentence and the time you agreed.
3. The annual membership
- A membership year is not refunded once the workspace is open to your organization. You may stop using it at any time, and it simply ends when the year runs out.
- If we end your membership and you have not broken the terms of use, we refund the unused part of the year.
- If we change the terms in a way that affects your rights and you do not agree, you can leave and ask for a refund of the unused part of the year.
- Duplicate and mistaken charges are always refunded.
4. How to ask
Use the request form or write to refunds@cbosofamerica.org. Tell us the organization, the email used to pay and the date or receipt number.
- We decide within 10 business days and tell you by email, with the reason if the answer is no.
- An approved refund goes back to the card or account that paid. Banks usually show it within 5 to 10 business days after we send it.
- We do not charge a fee for a refund.
5. Card statements and disputes
Payments are processed through the William H. Douglas Foundation, the nonprofit that runs the program. Your statement reads WHD* CBOS OF AMERICA. If you do not recognize a charge, please write to us first: we can usually fix it faster than a bank can. You keep every right your bank or card gives you to dispute a charge.
6. Changes
The version of this policy that was posted when you paid is the one that applies to that payment. If we change the policy, we post the new version here with a new date.
