An independent counselor

Your practice, with the whole map behind it

  1. 01Your students are yours alone

No school, community organization or university can see your caseload.

  2. 02Find help near a student

Search every listed organization by place and by what it does, and see it on a map.

  3. 03Colleges ask through you

A university asks for one student by a private handle. You read the reason and decide.

  4. 04The family has the last word

The student, or a parent for a minor, chooses what is shared, and can take it back.

An independent counselor
  • Mrs. Quintero, parent

Marisol needs help with chemistry before her applications. Do you know a program near us?

  • You

Yes. I found three tutoring nonprofits within a few miles of you in the directory. I will send the two that take juniors.

  • Northfield University

Request passed to the family by you.

  • Mrs. Quintero, parent

We said yes to her name and email. Not her phone number.

Slate.org, the free counselor side of Slate

What Slate does

  • See application progress and admission decisions for students who applied to participating colleges
  • Upload materials for those students
  • Build lists of students, applications and colleges
  • Colleges choose which information they share

CBOs of America

What you get here on top

  • A caseload with tasks, notes and last contact for every student, including the ones who have not applied anywhere yet
  • Messages with students and parents, and staff channels that can be archived, searched and handed over
  • One calendar of fly-ins, visits, scholarships and deadlines, matched to the students they fit
  • Introductions to universities that need your decision and then the family's, one request at a time
  • Packets: what each student still needs for a program, checked off as it arrives
  • A map and directory of colleges and education nonprofits across the country

We do not show application status or admission decisions. Slate.org does, for colleges that share them.

What Slate does is taken from Technolutions' own public documentation, read in October 2026. Slate and Slate.org are products of Technolutions, which is not connected to CBOs of America.

Who this is for

A counselor who works for families

You are not a school and you are not a nonprofit. Families hire you, and you keep track of each student across spreadsheets, email and a shared drive.

Here you get a workspace of your own. Your students are yours alone. No school, community organization or university can see them unless a family says yes to one specific request.

What you get

The directory is the point

A student may need a tutoring program, a first-generation support group or a scholarship fund that you do not run. The directory lists more than 98,000 education nonprofits and more than 4,000 colleges, drawn from public records.

Search by place, by name or by what the organization does, and see it on a map of the country.

What stays protected

The same rules for everyone

A university never sees a student's name through you without the family's yes. The steps are the same as for every member: a request, your decision, the family's decision, then a release that can be taken back.

There is no fee per student, per referral or per enrollment, for you or for anyone else. Students under 13 cannot have an account.
